EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. It’s also known as tapping. It’s a technique that consists of lightly tapping key acupressure points on your face and body while verbalising your emotions. The purpose is not to explain, analyse, or interpret your emotions, but simply to describe them honestly, while tapping the same sequence several times. It somehow allows stuck feelings to start flowing a bit better so that you can think a bit more creatively about your problems, without big overwhelming emotions taking up all the space.

One way to put it is that tapping creates a dialogue between the part of your brain who’s in charge of surviving, which can feel strong feelings and can be quite stubborn, and the part of your brain in charge of complex problem-solving and logical reasoning.

EFT can be used within and alongside talking therapy, or as a stand-alone. In our first session, you will start by telling me about the problem you’re trying to resolve. I will ask you to describe your feelings in great detail, without judgment. I will then show you the tapping sequence, and we’ll start tapping together.

I suggest tapping once a day between sessions. Depending on what’s going on for you, we may need three to six sessions to get you where you want to be.

EFT can help with:

Fear — When your head is determined to do something, but you can’t make your body do it. Think paralysing fear of public speaking, driving, job interviews, first dates… EFT will not give you the skills you need to become a great public speaker or pass a driving test, but it can remove the layer of panic which is stopping you from performing.

Grief — After a bereavement, a difficult break-up or ending, or if you’re struggling to come to terms with a diagnosis, you may feel very stuck in conflicting feelings. You might feel stuck in anger or confusion, looping the same thoughts and feelings again and again. EFT can help you shifts things a little.

Anxiety — If you feel generally on edge, always a bit worried, never quite relaxed, we can use EFT to help your body find a bit of safety and security, focusing on the sensations rather than the emotions. From a more relaxed space, you may be able to make changes for a more peaceful life going forward.

Pain — EFT can help reduce pain. However, EFT cannot heal illnesses or injuries so this is only recommended if you have thoroughly explored your pain through every medical avenue. Tapping may help with severe headaches, joint pain, pregnancy aches and symptoms, back pain… It can be used in the process of recovering from an injury or managing a chronic condition.

Sessions are £70 each. Get in touch if you’d like to book a phone call to discuss your needs.
